Connected home
Most South African homes have security products. Very few have a security system — one coherent layer where cameras, access control, intercom, gate and alarm all respond together and feed into the same home automation platform.
What that looks like day to day:
- One interface covers your gate, cameras, intercom, alarm and door locks — no switching between apps.
- Daily scenes arm and disarm the system automatically, so you're never leaving things to chance.
- Every access event is logged and visible from your phone, at home or abroad.
The security system does its job without you managing it.
Access control
Access control lets you set precise permissions across every entry point on the property — and change them instantly without calling anyone. Who gets in, where they can go, and when that access expires is all in your hands.
For a typical household, that covers:
- Access levels set per person: family, domestic staff, contractors, regular service providers, visitors.
- Every entry and exit logged with time, location and credential used.
- Temporary access granted and revoked remotely — no keys cut, no codes left active after the job is done
The gate doesn't just open. It opens for the right person.
Surveillance
Camera placement matters more than camera count. We map coverage to the specific geometry of your stand — entry points, blind spots, perimeter lines, high-traffic zones — before a single device is specified.
The way we approach it:
- Cameras specified for real conditions: night performance, glare from pool or exterior lighting, distance to the street.
- Live access and recorded footage in the same interface as the rest of the home system.
- Analytics that flag unusual activity rather than leaving you to watch hours of footage.
A wall of cameras no one checks isn't security. Useful coverage is.
Intercom & entry
The front gate intercom is the most-used piece of security technology on a South African property. It needs to be reliable, see clearly at night, and feed into the same system as your cameras and access control — not operate as a standalone device with its own app.
A properly integrated setup means:
- Video door station integrated with access control — see, speak and grant or deny access from one place.
- The same notification arrives on your phone whether you're inside or in a different country.
- Every visitor interaction logged automatically, no manual record-keeping required.
Answering the gate shouldn't require three different apps and a guess.
Gate & garage
Gate and garage automation is where convenience and security meet. Your arrival triggers the gate. Your departure closes everything and arms the perimeter. Neither requires a separate action — and both are confirmed on your phone.
Built into how the home already runs:
- Arrival recognised and gate opened before you reach the intercom — triggers lighting and scenes inside the home.
- Automated close on a timer with confirmation, every open and close event logged.
- Away scene closes the gate, locks the garage, arms the full perimeter and confirms it all on your phone.
Leaving the house is one tap, not a checklist.
How a Space Atelier project works.
Every system is designed around your home, your habits and your plans — then installed and supported by the same team throughout. We don't quote from a catalogue.
Client Interview & Technology Education
Before anything is specified or priced, we map the full system around your home and how you use it.
Design Engineering & Construction Drawings
Full technical documentation your architect and contractors can build from — coordinated across trades so nothing gets missed on site.
Client Services & Support
After handover we stay close. Adjustments, expansions, or just a question — we're reachable.

Security & Entry — questions worth asking.
It means your cameras, access control, intercom, gate automation and alarm all operate from one coordinated platform — not separate apps with separate logins. At Space Atelier, security is designed as one layer of the broader home system, so your daily scenes automatically arm and disarm the setup without manual intervention.
Often yes. It depends on the make and model. We assess what’s in place and advise on what’s worth integrating versus replacing. The goal is a coherent system, not a workaround held together by compatibility patches.
The gate is part of the same automation layer as everything else. Arriving home triggers the gate and activates lighting and audio inside. An Away scene closes the gate, locks the garage and arms the perimeter — all from one action, confirmed on your phone.
Both. Retrofits are common and usually straightforward. We start with a site visit before specifying anything — understanding the entry points, existing infrastructure and what needs to change.
Each person gets their own credential — keypad code, proximity card or mobile — with access limited to the relevant areas and times. Temporary access can be granted and revoked remotely without affecting anyone else.
